You get to see them learn more about themselves and accept who they are, while also learning to understand each other. These teenager felt believable and relatable, and their interactions with each other was a highlight of the book for me. Chloe was flawed yet likable, and the secondary characters all had their own unique voices that made the cast rich and vibrant. In true McQuiston fashion, the characters of this book were its main strength. With the help of Shara's boyfriend and the boy next door, Smith and Rory, Chloe embarks on a feverish mission to solve the mystery of Shara Wheeler before graduation.
Chloe is determined to find her, and Shara turns it into a game by leaving a string of clues as to her whereabouts. With mere weeks to graduation, Chloe finds that her academic rival, Shara Wheeler, has gone missing, but not before kissing Chloe in a seemingly random encounter. I Kissed Shara Wheeler follows protagonist Chloe Green, an irreverent bisexual girl stuck in the confines of an overly restrictive Christian high school. I was so looking forward to reading One Last Stop last year, but unfortunately it didn't work for me**.** Was Red, White, and Royal Blue an exception to an author that just might not work for me? Or was One Last Stop simply a good book that didn't live up to my (admittedly) too-high expectations? Needless to say, a lot was riding on I Kissed Shara Wheeler, but I can happily report that this book was a win for me! Red, White, and Royal Blue is one of my very favorite books, and I fell in love with her characters. When I found out that Casey McQuiston was writing a YA novel, I was nervous.
